I've been working on a very large Space Wolf army lately. Here is the first batch of 10 characters.
Arjac's loincloth: Basecoat with a mix of black and Scorched Brown. Add increasing amounts of Zandri Dust for highlights.
Glowing rune banner pole: Basecoat with black. Highlight with Eshin Grey. Paint the runes with thinned down Ice Blue. Highlight the edges of the runes with Mechanicus Standard Grey, followed by Dawnstone.
Note: (I add a few drops of black ink into my pots of Eshin Grey, to make it a little darker. That way I can highlight over black straight from the pot without having to mix it every time).
Krom's red cloak: Basecoat Scab Red. Shade with a mixture of Scab Red and black. Highlight with Scab Red plus increasing amounts of Blood Red. Highlight further with Fiery Orange.
Lukas' Frost Claws: Basecoat with Space Wolves Grey mixed with a little bit of white. Shade with thinned down Ice Blue. Highlight with Space Wolves Grey mixed with white. Highlight the edges and add scratches with thinned down white.
Ragnar's Sword: After painting the saw blades, basecoat the casing of the chainsword with white. Several thin layers are better than one thick layer. Paint a line of black all the way around it. Paint several thinned coats of Sunburst Yellow over the entire casing. Using thinned down black, paint the triangle design. Highlight the edges of the black triangles with Eshin Grey, followed by Dawnstone. Shade the yellow areas with Golden Yellow, followed by a mixture of Golden Yellow and Fiery Orange. Highlight the edges of the yellow triangles with a mixture of Sunburst Yellow and white.
Each of the rune priests has knee heraldry to match the Blood Claws, Grey Hunters, and Wolf Guard.
Caution striping on wires: Basecoat the wires black. Highlight with Eshin Grey. Paint the stripes with thinned down Golden Yellow; several thin coats is better than one thick coat. If you want really bright yellow, paint it white first. Highlight the edges with Sunburst Yellow, followed by a mix of Sunburst Yellow and white. Highlight the edges of the black portions with Dawnstone.
