Here's some Grey Knights I recently finished.
Here's a few of the color recipes. If you need one that's not listed here, just post a comment.
Silver:
Basecoat Boltgun Metal, wash Badab Black + Devlan Mud (cracks only), touch up with Boltgun Metal, successive washes of Asurman Blue, followed by Asurman Blue + Badab Black in the darkest areas and around rivets. Hit the edges of everything with Mithril Silver.
Red:
Basecoat 50/50 Blood Red/Mechrite Red. Devlan Mud wash. Touchup with 50/50 mix. Highlight Blood Red, highlight Blazing Orange, highlight Fiery Orange. Highlight Fiery Orange + Golden Yellow on some of the very corners.
Black:
Chaos Black. Highlight edges with (p3) Coal Black. Highlight with 50/50 Coal Black/Fortress Grey, then highlight Fortress Grey on it's own.
Gold:
Basecoat Brazen Brass (If you don't have it, use the VGC version or use a 50/50 mix of Scorched Brown and Shining Gold). Devlan Mud wash (or 2), highlight Shining Gold, highlight Shining Gold + Mithril Silver. Wash with water + Gryphonne Sepia + tiny bit of Golden Yellow.

Hi Matt! Kat Loch from CMON here. Thanks so much for posting the recipes. They are fantastic! One question/request. Ellie demonstrated a woven technique on a cloak that he said you helped him with that looked quite intriguing. Would you mind sharing that? I'm like this little sponge over here wanting to absorb all the info I can. :D Thank you.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great work!
Cheers,
Kat
PS - any chance of seeing you at a GD any time soon? 2012 maybe?
Sure thing, I think I'll do some woven texture on the confrontation fig. I'll post some WIP shots and a quick tutorial.
ReplyDeleteNot sure about games day. The last one I went to was in 2008. I sort of stopped going since I've been really burnt out with the hobby and since GW cancelled the Los Angeles ones (it's a quick drive for me here in Phoenix). Not really too keen on dishing out all that money and deal with a plane flight/hotel for a toy soldier convention these days... I'm pretty broke. Maybe I can save up for next year but I'm not too sure ;)
Thank you so much! I really appreciate all of your help. I enjoy the learning. The WIP and tutorial will be fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI hear you on the burn out. I'm the same way on the model horse hobby. And just had a financial disaster over here to top it all off. But I'm bound and determined to go to GD for the first time next year. It would be great to see you there!
